Paging File

I have a paging file error when I boot my laptop running Win2K.

It's telling me that my paging file is either missing or is too small. I've upped the size of the paging file, and also run a registry hack which is supposed to resize my paging file, but when I run it and re boot the machine, the same error is present and when I check the size of the paging file it has no entries at all.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Why a registry hack and not the normal way to resize. Can you go back and resize the normal way?

No, when I try to re size in the normal way, it doesn't make any difference.

I ran the hack which was supposed to resize on re boot but it did nothing. When I went to look at it, there was no paging file size specified.

There is a Norton program, I can't remember which one - Firewall or Internet Security or something like that - that can cause this type of error. Try disabling all Norton/symantec programs from startup and reboot and see if you still get the error.

I'm not running anything from Norton/Symantec on my machine.

Have you done anything recenly with your file permissions for the drive where your pagefile is hosted. If the system doesnt have the right permissions it wont be able to create the file.

Check the security/Policy pointing to your HDD. That's the reason why your changes does not put into effect. Maybe you or the previuos user unknowingly setup the policy or security to the HDD.

No, I've not done anything with the file permissions either.

Right click your HDD goto security, what can you see? Click the Advanced button, check the permission, auditing, owner?

I am not trying to teach one to suck eggs but,,,,,, Are you clicking the "SET" button when you have made the changes to your swap/page file?

I've gone to the above site and checked. It's the same point what I'm trying to tell to Allan 73. I've encountered similar problem before and I resolved it that way.

Allan 73:

You've checked file permisssion not the HDD(ntfs) permission. How is it now?
