Some of the most popular search engines give particular weight to a page's title (the <title> tag), so don't overlook its importance.

For example, if your company, Acme LLC, sells widgets at wholesale, in terms of search engine optimization these titles are:

Poor: Acme LLC Home
Good: Acme Widgets
Great: Acme Wholesale Widgets

Remember, make sure the titles actually do apply to the content; some search engines may penalize you for using a page title that has nothing to do with the content. Robert Bradley

How did an search engine get the information from my pages? ________

The search engine &quot;spiders&quot; your page, and possibly other pages linked from that page, by reading the final HTML source in the same way your browser does (I say &quot;final&quot; because it only reads what is actually sent to a browser, not server-side scripts such as ASP or PHP).

Depending on the search engine, it will give special consideration to the META KEYWORDS and DESCRIPTION tags (though some SEs ignore one or both of these), as well as your TITLE tag, H1 tags, and so forth (the importance placed on these vary between SEs, and even within a given SE over time).
