I put in a small php code into my landing page and saved it with the php extension. I also uploaded the php script along with the text file it lnks to into the same directory. Now the page only displays the source code! Is it because php is not running on my host server? Or, do I need to put the script in a different directory?

It is likely that your server is not running PHP.

Can you share the URL to show what you are working with?

It's also possible that your provider requires an extension other than. php. For example .php3, .php4, .php5, or .phtml. You'd have to check with them.
