I am having trouble using the board with two PIII 700E processors. With Windows 2000AS installed the system has very poor, delayed, and unstable performance. The processor performance graphs in the task manager are very sluggish and unstable when the system is being used/diagnosed. The system only performs well in the fist and second boot stages of win2k, however once it reaches the windows login prompt, the problem starts. A "slow and unstable" example would be at least a full minute to load device manager and list devices; even longer to show properties for a particular device.
Here is the current setup:
P6DGE, Kingston ValueRam 1GB ECC (4 - 256MB Dimms), 300watt ATX PS with secondary power connector, (have tried both AGP and PCI video), 10/100 nic, 80GB WD 7200 udma5, windows2000AS
Here are most of the things that i have tried
I have install win2k several times. Different approaches include using ACPI and MPS drivers, different BIOS settings - (ACPI off/on, ide bus master on/off), different HDs - (WD 30gb & 60gb tried), different processors - (tried PII 333s), also swapped power supply, memory ( tried ECC/nonECC, different amounts, different manufactures), vid, and all ide cables for new or known good replacements.
i have researched many resources on the internet in addition to the online super micro information. Some of the leads i have followed included checking the processor voltage regulator chips to make sure they are the right version (i have HIP6004BCB), making sure the chips are not to hot (running at 28C), voltage monitors in bios are also ok.
I am currently thinking that the solution is 1. a driver problem (i have not found any specific updates for mb/os config), 2. one or more bios settings (i have tired many combinations and any that were foreign settings, i looked it up online and/or read manual def) 3. Have defective hardware ( last because the system performs ok until windows enters the last boot stage).
I need some new possible solutions. Please help with ideas, or info about similar situations that you have run into. Please help - this board has not been functionally installed since purchase.
Thank-you
