I am running Exchange 2K. I have users accessing mail from outside via OWA and well as through Outlook Express in IMAP mode. I have one user that can send/received from OE but cannot even log in through OWA. When the user goes to the OWA site, it seems that the password is rejected. All other OWA user work fine. This users mail works except for through OWA. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Try resetting the users password to something you know, and retry OWA.

Thanks for the post. I have reset the password a couple times and still am not getting access to OWA. It is only this one individual that this is happening to. It is not the users computer because I tried to gain access from home as that user and was unsuccessful.

Any other thoughts?????

I have maxde some progress. Everytime I try and login through OWA I am repeatedly asked for the password and then finally get an access is denied error. However, all I need to do then is refresh the page and OWA appears. Only the administrator goes straight in without error. Any other ideas? Thanks again.

You should check the permission in IIS, specifically the exchange directories. I have notice that if you have integrated authentication turned off, OWA will keep asking for a password. Let me know what you find.

I had the same problem and had to end up going to AD Users and Computers, Right-click on the user name, and follow the steps to delete the mailbox and recreating it.

Deleting the Account also works but too much work.

Thanks for all your replys. I have checked the permissions and all "seems" normal. What is strange is that only the administrator is let into OWA right off the bat. All the other users keep getting prompted to enter their password again and again. It will finally say access is denied and a refresh of the page open OWA for that user. Too weird. Could this be a licensing issue since the admin is allowed instant access? It sure "sounds" like a permissions isuue.

Any other thoughts? Thanks for all your advice.

Although most probably not that helpful - i've run into a similar issue with OWA (on the new Beta) that was resolved by clearing the Internet cache on the workstation.

Perhaps this will help - hopefully.

Questions:
1. Is "all other users keep getting prompted to enter their password again and again" something new? Before you said "All other OWA user work fine".

2. Has each Windows NT account accessing the server via OWA had the Log on Locally right assigned on the IIS server and/or the Exchange server if it is located on another server?

You may find http;// has a helpful server configuration checklistand details on #2 above.

What operating system are you running on these systems.
I am running into a similar problem with XP Pro with a new install without any patches.

If I understand correctly, any user can connect to OWA on your LAN but only an administrator can connect externally from the internet.

If so, then either a firewall and/or proxy server are most likely involved when accessing from the internet, correct?

In my situation, any user can connect to Exchange using Outlook on my LAN. but only members of the administrator group can connect using OWA both on the LAN and externally from the internet.

It is NOT firewall or proxy. It must be some security related setting either in IIS or in NTFS on the Exchange volume. I went through the check list provided through earlier post, but couldn't resolve the problem.

Please help...

You are the Man, Dave! I logged on by adding the domain name. But why members of the Administrator group do not need to?

Anyway, Thanks again for your help :)

Admins usually get away with it because domain Admins are usually by default added to the local admins group where user accounts would not be. Very common problem.

That is NOT true. Domain Admins are not members of the Local Admin group 'BY DEFAULT'.

Besides, we are talking about 'putting the domain name in front of the login in Outlook Web Access', which shouldn't have anything to do with which group you are in. By the way, the domain name is already specified in IIS...

I agree with mickeytech. I believe I have concluded that this was all because of a browser issue. Here is the situation.

I have am using a computer at home to check office mail through OWA. I access multiple accounts. I normally have to completely close the browser to be able to log on as a different user. All of a sudden I was continuously prompted for the password of the user by OWA. I would keep entering the password and OWA would finally fail with an "access denied" error. At that point a refresh of the page would bring OWA up and mail operations would resume. If I tried to access the admin account this did not happen.

I tried a different system at my house and have NO PROBLEM. This issue is machine specific and I am sure lies within IE. I still have not been able to clear it out of this machine as of yet. Any other thoughts?
