I'm moving users from ccmail to Exchange 5.5. The actual migration seems to go fairly well. (except for the fact that I have to bounce the PDC and BDC's when user get the "you don't have permission to logon")

Anyway, the OWA problem. I moved a user. "Marie Smith-Jones" is her mailbox. her alias and network ID are the same: mjone. She gets her email through OUtlook 2000 with no problem. But once she hits our OWA server, she does not get her inbox.

Any ideas?

Try having the user type Marie Smith-Jones in default web page "Log On" box rather than mjone and then have her login with her id and password and see if she can login to Outlook Web
If she can, make sure that there aren't any other user ID's that closely match Marie's ID such as "mjones". If there are, the login is failing because Exchange doesn't know what mailbox to open.
If Mary still can't login using her entire name, verify that Marie's password is not longer than 10 characters. If it is, have Marie reset it to a shorter password

The Outlook Web Access client must have the Log on Locally right assigned on the IIS server. I set up a group called Web Access Users and gave the Log on locally right to the group. Or you can assign this right to the Everyone group.

Thanks!!!!! Email Chick. You are an extremely nice and obviously intelligent lady.

I tried the Full name at the web page and it worked. I did look and I have one that is pretty close. I thought logging in was based on the alias, but it can be based on actual mailbox name?

I just started in Exchange (I was and will a DOS guy), but exchange (5.5) seems to be pretty decent.

Again, thanks!

Scott

I'm glad that I could help. The Outlook Web "log on" field name is based on the alias (aka whatever is entered in the in alias field in the recipent's mailbox properties) or the display name of the mailbox. Either one will work. Obviously the id is easier to type so most people prefer to use that. The majority of Outlookweb log on problems that I have seen in my org are related to a user having an alias that is similiar to the beginning of another alias (such as with Maria's case) or because someone gets married and changes their name, their NT account is renamed, and they are trying to use their new NT account name to log on when the Exchange alias field has not been changed.
