I have 5 E2k servers (regular version) and would like users to access OWA via one of them only. We installed E2k on the one to host OWA but haven't configured it yet. Does the front-end server need to be dedicated to that function, i.e. not a "real" Exchange server, or can it host a mail store also?

Thanks.

The whole point of front end back end topology is for security. You don't want your databases to be susceptible to the internet. There should only be one store on the OWA box because the System Attendent needs it. I wouldn't put any other mailboxes in that store.

Yeah dont house any on the front end server, when u install the front end make sure u del both stores on the new server. tick ya front end tick box and open the correct ports throught the firewall, and walla should work, i did mine today works a treat. I did it without a front end last week and i have a managed firewall, all i opened was port 80 and within 10 mins a hacker from morocco was on the exchange server trying to TFTP files off it, luckily the firewall spotted him and closed the port :).
