I am having problems with my OWA and DNS. I have "mail.domainname.com" pointed to my SMB server and when I am outside my LAN I can access OWA without problems. However, when I am inside my LAN I can't access OWA using "mail.domainname.com". In order for me to connect to the server inside the LAN I need to use the server IP address. This is only a problem for clients using my LAN DNS server since the linux box I have on my network uses a different DNS server it can connect to OWA. Do I need to add a record to my DNS server? If so what kind of record?

Yes, just add a host record for mail.domainname.com and point to your internal IP address of the SBS server. You will need to flush dns on the client machine before testing.
