I'm trying to understand if I have the concept right.

Let's say I have one tape and 2 backup jobs.

I don't want the tape to be overwritten, except by the first job because it contains old data from last week.

So I put the tape in the drive. I set the first job to overwrite and the second job to append only.

Will this protect the first job from being overwritten by the second or am I missing the intent of this concept?

thanks.

Correct providing the job is set to append only and not append/overwrite

ok, thanks. But does the tape have to be erased first? I mean, what about the data that already existed on the tape from last week. Since I set the second job to append, will it overwrite the job from last week?
