Hey guys,I have a dell inspiron 5000E laptop.Lately it has been shutting down for absolutely no reason. One second it's on,the next second it's off.I also have a fan in the back of the laptop that only goes on for 3 seconds when I start it up.

I hope I've provided enough info.

It could be a number of things, but I'd check the RAM first.

If it has two RAM modules, try removing one of them. It if
still does it, insert the RAM you just removed and remove the other one.

Have you checked the fan/heatsink setup for dust?
I had a Toshiba that would run fine for an hour or so then just turn off, no announcements just on... then off.

Turned out the gap between the fan and the heatsink was just a carpet of dust. Once removed all was well. It was just reaching MAX temp the shutting down. Sounds similar to your issue going on your description. Will of couse depend how your fan and heatsink sit together but worth a look.

This is based on the fact that with the exception of just switching off mine was otherwise working fine.
