Overclocking questions. 1

Ok I usually don't overclock but some nights I get a wild hair up my butt and try to run it as fast as possible. The highest I've kept my 2600+ t-bred 333fsb was at 2.5 ghz (12.5x200). But in order keep it stable I had to run my v.core at 1.85! I managed to keep the cpu temp at 53c but seeing as how I can run it at 2.3 ghz (11.5x200)with a v.core of 1.675 doesn't make sense to me. How can I max out without having to jump to such high voltage. Is there a formula? My board is a MSI KT6 Delta lsr. I was also told it wouldn't run a fsb higher than 200 but I ran it stable at 240. Also what is fast command for ram? If I set it to ultra my system won't boot. My ram is kingston hyper x pc4000 512mb. Any info would help.
 
There really is no formula, as every cpu is different in it's maximum overclocking capabilities. If AMD could pump out reliable Athlon cpu's at 2.5GHz in massive quantities, they would and they'd start selling them at that frequency.

Basically what happens when you increase the clock frequencies, the transisters loose a higher percentage of the energy in the electrons to heat, which is why you must use a higher voltage for the cpu to run reliably. I once saw a chart of different transister technologies comparing clock speed to energy loss, and it's basically exponential in shape; the energy loss is almost constant until some frequency where the energy loss just starts shooting upwards. You've probably hit near that point in clock speeds.
