I have a strange anomaly, whereas my Ultra-2 has been on for days and when I powered down the following error occurs:

Boot device: disk File and args:
SunOS Release 5.9 Version Generic 32-bit
Copyright 1983-2002 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All rights reserved.
Use is subject to license terms.
WARNING: Severe over-temperature condition detected!
WARNING: Powering down...

Thanks!

Run a Keyword Search in this forum on temperature. There are several threads there about temperature and how to determine what the internal temp is (/usr/platform/`uname -i`/sbin/prtdiag -v). Check the thread60-599024 thread, also.

You may have a fan that is out or about to go out. Or it just may need cleaning. I've had overheating problems on various platforms and it's not fun. Get it fixed before your disks start failing.

I remember there was a FCO on Ultra-2's about 3-4 jears ago, I think they changed 5-6 "wing" fans to 9-11 wings?

or like bi says: dirty or dead fan...
