I have just formatted a NT4 pc and have installed Win2000. Outlook 98 worked fine on NT4 but since there is Win2000 on the pc it takes forever to connect to the Exchange server and is it very slow once connected.Everything else is super fast on our 100 mbps network.

How is your network setup? Do you use DHCP,WINS,DNS? Please let us (Tek-tips members) know if the solutions we provide are helpful to you. Not only do they help you but they may help others.

Yes DNS,DHCP & WINS. When i logged on as Administrator the administrator mailbox comes up fast but when use use another user it takes ages to bring up the mailbox. The network seems perfect.

Do you have the users profile set as DOAMIN USERS in their Properties Sheet? This being set as local users and domain users can cause a bit of slowdown. Also is the computer Working as a workgroup or is it installed into the doain (Right click on My Computer go to Properties. Next go to Network Identification then click on Properties. and tell me what the Member Of says.) Please let us (Tek-tips members) know if the solutions we provide are helpful to you. Not only do they help you but they may help others.

domain users which belong to our domain. It seems that it is only the one user that is causing a slowdown when opening outlook. I have a problem with the memory ...Has 2 256MB chips and use to work fine but all of a sudden it was unable to boot. The memory works fine elsewhere except in this pc only the one chip works.Rebooting is a problem as it only sometimes boot successfully...Due to hardware problems according to Win2000.Outlook is a network application and the network is perfect. Have tested the NIC as well but outlook stays slow to open.

Do you use roaming profiles on your network? If no, then delete/rename his local profile and have his log in again ...

If yes, then you will also have to delete/rename the profile on the network also.

Hope this helps,
Mark
