I am running Outlook2000 on a Win98 system accessing email from Exchange Server2000.

My system crashed with Outlook open. After rebooting and launching Outlook I now get a login prompt but when I put in the login id, domain and password the login screen pops back up with the fields empty. I cannot cancel the screen or close it. It takes several attempts with Task Manager to close this prompt window and Outlook.

The Exchange settings are set to use NT Authentication. I can validate the server and the mailbox. I have uninstalled Outlook and reinstalled it and get the same result. This is starting to appear like a corrupted file or registry entry.

I can access the mailbox via Outlook 2000 running through a Citrix session so I am fairly confident the problem is on the desktop and not the server.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure if this will resolve the issue but I would start by deleting your .pwl file, if there is a .pwl file on your 98 machine, to see if this helps.

Also, when you reinstalled outlook did you also recreate your profile? joegz

no i didn't recreate the profile, the old one was still there. Would i need to delete the mail services first before removing Outlook2000?

You don't need to remove Outlook to rebuild the profile. I would just delete the profile and then rebuild and see if this resolves your issue. joegz

thanks, creating a new profile and then deleteing the old one worked like a charm.
