Outlook won't open .exe attahcments

I cannot open ".exe" files that are sent to my Outlook account. I understand this is a security setting, but I need to open this file -- I know who it is from.
Does anyone know the path and what I need to change in order to open ".exe" files?

exe files don't have a "path"

Are you able to detach the file?
Are you able to have the person resend the file? If so, have them change the exe extension to txt or something. After you receive it, THEN rename it to exe again and open it.
