While using Outlook XP one of our users is getting the error Dialog Box message:

Title: Internet Connection Error
Message: Your request cannot be completed because the service could not be found or did not respond. The service might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your network settings.

I have Googled for this message searched Microsoft's website but canot find anything that would point me in the direction of how to reoslve this message.

Does anyone know what it means? -or- what in Outlook XP I can configure this to stop the error message from appearing again?

What is the user doing when the message appears?
is the user set up to access the internet?

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by

dhulbert,

Thanks for the reply
What is the user doing when the message appears?

Nothing in particular she could be writing an email or browsing the web or using some other application, but it is related to Outlook because when I kill the Outlook exe using task manager the message dies with it.

is the user set up to access the internet?
Yes

Her Outlook is set-up to access out Coorporate exchange server. It is not supposed to be set-up to access any pop3 mail servers ( that was my first thought what may have been the issue )

The error message appears every 5 mins, she timed it!!! She has had this message so long and got so irate with our help desk that she rang up with this information. then they passed her onto me!!

I have compared here Outlook Settings with mine and they all look to be the same. I could be overlooking something though. Other users use the same PC on and off and don't experience the same error message. So it is someting to do with her personal settings.

If you have any ideas what I should look for next I would appreciate it.

what about the internet connection settings (tools, internet options - connections in IE)? is it set to "never dial a connection?

Hi,

Is your user the first to use this PC?

Have a look in Tools -> Accounts.
Is there only one account? If not, delete them all except for your users' account.
