I'm having a problem with outlook running on xp. It has been working fine and as far as I am aware no changes to the setup have been made. Suddenly, my new messages do not cause a pop up box notifying me (even though they are set to), and to find out if I have new messages I have to click on either a different folder and go back in to my inbox, or click on another message on my inbox before the new ones appear in view. Has anyone else had this problem, or know how to fix it?
Thanks
Steph

I too have this problem with one of my workstations. All other workstations (mostly XP Pro w/ some Win98) work properly.

I have tried everything to no avail.

Anybody?

The notification dialog box that you are used to does not appear interrupting your work as in the past. For me (and realize that I work with the taskbar normally hidden), I will get a sound notification and the [normally hidden] taskbar appears at the bottom of the screen with a new item (in orange, on mine) indicating incoming email. This is very different with XP Pro than it was with NT.

I also use ATL+TAB to cycle through open applications, and the email notification appears there as well.

Are you sure you’re not getting the notices? Or, perhaps, since they don’t pop up to interrupt you it just seems like they’re not working?

Yes - I am sure that it is not working. In my domain there are 5 XP Pro workstations and 4 98se workstations. All of the computers with the exception of the one I posted about function the same.

One thing I did not point out -- this is Outlook 2000, not 2002.

On the stray computer, I can have Outlook opened at the Inbox. I can send an email from another computer in the office and it will appear in the Inbox nor will I receive any notification UNTIL such time I click on another folder (ex, Outbox, Sent, OR another message in the Inbox).

I have tried removing the entire Office suite and reinstalling. I have checked all settings in Outlook - they match the settings on all the other workstations. I have created new .PAB & .PST files for this user.

Everything else on this computer works perfectly.

It's driving the user crazy and I'm ready to close this ticket... lol

Please -- anyone?

Thanks,
bw

Slames --

Try this registry fix:

It's a workaround -- It forces a poll of the exchange server every 60 seconds. This worked for my stray computer. I still have NO idea why it doesn't work like my other workstations, but I am happy with this fix.

Have a good day!

Thanks BottleWasher, I shall try that.
