Outlook not updating pointers for Send on Behalf user

We are running Exch2k sp2, which functions otherwise normally...

We have a user (a secretary), who has send-on-behalf permission for her boss. When a message comes in for the boss, she opens it from within her Outlook without issue. If she immediately replies on his behalf (simply clicks "Reply"), she can enter text, and send the email. She then looks in her Outbox, and the message is there like it's pending. The message indicator persists until she actually deletes it from the Outbox. However, the message does indeed get sent correctly (people receive the messages). This same action happens if she "Forwards" a message sent to him. However, if she creates a new message from him and sends it on his behalf, no indicator remains in her Outbox (it clears out as normal).

As I pointed out, the messages are indeed being sent. But if someone complains that they didn't get their message... she has no way really for her to verify it got sent. And the indicators remaining in the Outbox are somewhat unsettling, especially if what got sent was really important... "Did it REALLY get sent?"

Any thoughts?

I have seen this before. I believe it has something to do with Outlook not know where to save the sent message.
I will try to dig up more info later.

What if she leaves it in the Outbox? Does it go away after a min or so? She really shouldn't delete it. Dan

No, it doesn't go away. But regardless of whether or not she deletes it, it is in fact sent. We have had her leave emails in the Outbox, as well as delete them immediately. In both cases, the email was sent as normal with no delays. So actually, there is no "problem", but with Outlook allowing that pointer to remain in the Outbox, it makes it tough to troubleshoot other issues that may come up. It's also disconcerting to the secretary, who is depended upon to send out info on the VP's behalf.

Try - Tools - Options - Preference - email options - advanced e-mail options. Try removing the "In folder other than inbox save replies with original message". Uncheck it and see what happens.
