I have office 2000, and some office 2003. We recently upgraded our Exhange server from 2000 to 2003, and it's clustered as well, and on a HP SAN. The problem is that on some of these Windows 2000 Professional machines which are running outlook 2000 hangs upon exiting. It just hangs the entire time...any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I had something similar when changing users across onto a new Domain. even though the mailbox was now pointing at the new Exchange Server the machines just hang there.

Removing the Users existing email Profile and creating a new profile for them seemed to do the trick. IIRC it was a registry thing.

Thanks for the response. You know I've done that, I've deleted outlook profile, recreated it..it's still a problem. When you were experiencing this issue, did you still have the old exchange server up, or was it completely down? Thanks!

Old exchange server was gone. While it was there we didn't notice anything but once it had been consigned to the home for retired servers our problems began. I'm sure the MS KB has some notes on it ...I'll try digging them out and repost

I have experienced this when opening a mailbox in Outlook 2000 after opening it in Outlook 2003. I'd like to say I have a fix. I just checked the MS KB again, right now and did not locate anything.

I believe I have a fix, it's been working thus far, but I'm also looking to make sure that there's not an easier way to fix this from the Exchange server side.

As of now the problems seems to be traced to the free/busy information. During the migration from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003, the schedule free/busy folder wasn't moved over, we then moved it over later. After we shut down the old exchange box, this is when this started happening.

So the fix is to open up outlook with the switch " /cleanfreebusy". Then shut down outlook, and reopen it without the switch. Now when you close Outlook it should close fine. Now, if a specific user is connected to another user's Calender or contact, you may need to open up that other user's outlook with the /cleanfreebusy switch as well.

So you may have to run around and open up all the outlook user's outlook with the switch as well, and that would be a pain, so that's why I'm still looking for a fix on the Exchange side.

From Microsoft with the situation that I was having the /cleanfreebusy is the fix.
