On our network we have users that use Outlook Express and/or Outlook 2000 or 2003. A few users use both - Outlook Express as their email client and Outlook 2000/2003 strictly for sharing calendars on our exchange server. When one of these users sends an email to another outlook express and outlook user the email goes to Outlook. The recipient is under the impression the email isn't being delivered but in actuality it has gone to the Exchange server database. When the user checks Outlook that's when they get the email. We pop all email therefore the Exchange server is strictly used for calendaring. What do I need to change on Exchange, or the client, to keep all emails from being delivered to the Exchange account? We only want the Exchange server for the sharing of calendars.

Thanks in advance

You could try turning off the SMTP service on your Exchange server. That would prevent it from doing anything with email.

HTH,

I did turn that off but then I started having other problems, e.g. users email wasn't leaving the Outbox. Since that's the last thing I changed, I turned that back on.

Have you tried reconfiguring Outlook so it pulls the email messages down from your mailserver and not your Exchange server? I think you can do that but still have the calendar and other Exchange capabilities.

Thanks,

Joe Brouillette

Not sure I know what you mean by "reconfiguring Outlook so it pulls the email messages down from your mailserver and not your Exchange server?" Since we POP that address is already there and also set as the default. I am at a complete loss as to what's happening here. It looks like it's on the Exchange server not the clients.

Does anyone else have any suggestions? Anyone that sends email from Outlook (and it may be just Outlook 2000/2002) the email never gets received by a recipient that is using Outlook Express. This is why I believe it is on the Exhange server since Outlook Express isn't using a mailbox on an Exchange server. This has to get resolved but I have no ideas. If anyone knows what's going on please reply!

First, make sure the Outlook Express users make Outlook Express their default e-mail program.
When a user sends from Outlook, where are they pulling the contact from. Are they typing it in manually or do they pull it in from the Global Address book. If it is the latter, then it makes sense that e-mail is going to the Exchange Server.
From Outlook, type in the full SMTP address for the user (username@yourdomain.com).
Look in AD User and Computers, and if the problem user has an SMTP address under the E-mail Addresses tab, try removing it.

Also, can you describe how your e-mail accounts are set up for these clients? For example, Outlook clients have 1 profile with an Exchange Account and POP3 account. And what order are the acouunts being processed in?
