Hi Folks,

I have a notebook computer with Outlook Express whick I use when I am on the road. When I am in the office I use my Desktop computer's Outlook Express. Does anyone know how I can transfer my Notebook Outlook e-mail (XP) to my desktop Outlook Express Folders (WIN 98SE) ?

Appreciate it

Sure can!

Go to the FILE menu and choose EXPORT.
You can choose to export your your messages or your address book.

Export to a PST file....you will get the option.
Save it to a floppy diskette.

On the PC or laptop you are taking the info INTO....
Go into Outlook Express and choose FILE and then IMPORT.

Navigate to the file you saved when it asks you to.

You will get some options for example to allow duplicate emails or addresses etc and then it will import the data for you.

Should be no problem. I have used this process to backup email and addresses in case of a crash for many companies that use this program.

If you have any problems....post again and we can look at it..but I don't think you will.

Good luck!
Let us know how you progress.

Kimber,

Thanks for the response. I've tried the process you've described. The machine where I am exporting from is an XP machine with Outlook Express 6. As I am going through the "export" process Outlook geventually gets to the point where it ask which folders I want to export (not prior question regarding destiation location). I choose "All" and the export process starts. It doesn't give me a next option to designate the location or name of the export (pst) file. I am not sure where the file is being placed nor what its called. That what's confusing. Any suggestions ?

thanks in advance.

Do you need the information stored in the email client itself? Or just the information from several?

Are there a lot of them to transfer?

One easy method is to use the FILE....SAVE AS menu.
You can save them to floppy etc and just move them if there arent too many of them.

There are a couple of ways we can tackle this one, give me some more details and will choose the best method.
Is this something you will need to do on a regular basis?

Hi Kimber,

Thanks again for responding. I would like to move the e-ails from the laptop (OS is XP) to the desktop (OS is Win98SE) email's client. In both cases I am using Outlook Express 6. What you described above sounds like it is the way to do it and I could swear that I have done it like that before.

The two PCs can also talk to each other. I have t5henm on a network where I can get files from one PC to the other. When I execute the export on the XP machine (the laptop), it doesn't give me the opportunity to say where I want to put the files being exported. Is there a way to add the outlook file location to the desktop PC's Outlook and connect to the laptop's Outlook, in that way ?

I appreciate the help and thanks again.

regards

frank

If they are hooked up, try the IMPORT command on the FILE menu.

You should be able to navigate to the desktop from the laptop to show the program where to get the information to import from.

By default the .DBX files where the computer stores the inbox, outbox etc is in Program Files/Outlook Express.

I did a test of the import utility on my network and it worked great.
Make sure when the wizard comes up you choose the bottom option for import...and not leave the main identity selected at the top.
THEN you will be able to navigate to the folders you want to import from.

Just so you know, you can also import this way from Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, Netscape etc as well if you have addresses or email in those programs.

GOOD LUCK....post again and let us know how you fare. Kimber
