Can anybody tell me what the relevant folder extensions in Outlook Express ( any version )are?

As in , Outlook 98 etc uses .pst and .pab extensions - Express uses something else........

Also , once I've found these old folders - how on earth can I transfer them back in again.

I hate outlook express........... nasty horrible software. "What happens if I press *that* button?"

Outlook Express doesn't have one or even a few files for setup info. There is a folder that has a list of files. Each file is the name of a folder in your Outlook Express folder list. In 2000 or XP the folder would be in the following: C:\Documents and Settings\"username"\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{707AA195-D01B-40C1-84D9-F8E769607A6F}\Microsoft\Outlook Express. I'm not sure if that long number will be the same on all systems. I found that if you set Outlook Express back up on the new system and then copy the files back to the user's profile in the appropriate folder you can get access to the email in the folders. The problem with this is that even after you copy the files back to the user's profile, you still don't have the account settings or the contact list. You can export the contact list and import it back to the new setup, but I haven't been able to do so for the account settings so I have just manually set it back up
