Outlook.exe error

I work on an NT machine, I use Outlook 98. At one point in time, I had a signature on my outgoing e-mail. Something happened when I logged onto an XP machine whereas my profile got corrupt and one of the results is that I no longer had my signature. When I try to set up a signature starting with a blank form or trying to use a richtext format, I always get
"Outloook.exe - Exception: Access Violation" Outlook then shuts down automatically.

Any ideas?
