We have a problem where sometimes Exchange grabs an email that is outbound if it knows the recipient is on the network. We have an external (web host) mail server that hosts our email. We also have an Exchange server locally and all of our Outlook's are set up to check Internet E-mail & Exchange (we use it for contacts & calendar as well).

The problem is that sometimes if I send an email to another user on the network it doesn't go out to our external server but rather goes straight to the user. I can tell because when I open a received email and click View>>Options the Internet Headers part is empty if it didn't leave the local network.

What settings do I have to change to make sure all email goes out without Exchange grabbing it? This way if our users aren't in the office they will still get the emails sent from the network.

Thanks

Check your outgoing properties for the mail account.
Go to 'TOOLS' 'ACCOUNTS' select the email account and click 'PROPERTIES' select the tab 'SERVERS' and make sure the outgoing mail points to the external mail server.
