Outlook 97 view settings lost Windows xp

I have installed Office 97 on a couple of Windows XP machines. The problem I'm having is that Outlook 97 view settings are lost when Outlook closes. What I mean is that I arrange the panes to suit me, ie. Outlook bar and folder list to the side, then when I shut outlook down and re-open I have to arrange the panes again. It's not a big problem but it is annoying and it only happens when Outlook is installed on Windows XP as far as I know.

Anybody seen this before ? I know Office 97 and Windows XP is hardly a common combo !
