An office colleague has Outlook 97 and can't get the settings so that he can format text in an e-mail (bold, underline etc) - the toolbar is greyed out.
I've tried changing the mail format setting from plain text to HTML, Rich Text etc but the formatting toolbar remains greyed out.
I have Outlook 2002 on my PC so the settings are different (mine is set to use Word as an editor but I can't see that option on his).
Any suggestions ?

This might seem really obvious but i had the same problem with one of my clients pc's and i tried changing the mail format to HTML and then clicking on new e-mail and the formatting toolbar was still greyed out.
It had me stumped for a few minutes as i tried numerous other options.

But i kicked myself after, all you have to do is obviously set it to HTML as you have done. But it will stay greyed out until you click in the message part and that is when the toolbar becomes active.

Thanks for the reply amb1982.

We got it sorted a few days after I posted that question and, like you say, it's incredibly simple and we were so close but just hadn't clicked the curser into the message box.
Isn't it irritating when something as simple, and with such an obvious solution, stumps you for so long ? Never mind, I learn something new every day :>)
