We currently have Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003 in our environment set-up to use RPC over HTTPS.

If a client is VPN'd in for other applications, opening Outlook prompts the user to enter their username and password (as if logging in to the server via https).

Using "rpcdiag" option, I see that it IS trying to connect via https, and Outlook isn't recognizing that the exchange server is on the VPN connection.

Is there a setting to make sure that Outlook checks those connections before trying to go for the RPC over HTTPS option??

Thanks for any suggestions.

Chris

You've mentioned that your server is set up for RPC/HTTPS. How do you know? That is, are any of your other clients having this issue?
Can you connect to OWA? I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a firewall setting.

You might want to double check your configuration.
I setup our SBS 2003 box using:

We know RPC over HTTPS is configured properly, as it works fine on a number of client workstations. Outlook Web Access is fine as well.

The only problem is that the client Outlook seems to be checking the network for the Exchange server, gives up on a TCP/IP connection before it checks over the VPN, and then begins connecting and connects via HTTPS.

Thanks,
Chris

The only thing I can think is checking the settings:

Email Account Settings, More Settings, Connection tab, Exchange Proxy Settings, when connected over a "Slow Connection" Outlook connects via HTTPS first, then TCP/IP.
