This is irritating. We have a number of apps on one Citrix server, including Office 2003. Overnight, Outlook 2003 has stopped working. Everything else functions normally, but if you click the Outlook icon, it whirs for a bit then nothing.

Help!

Thats not really a lot to go on.

Is there anything in the event viewer ?

[blue] Oh you know, just doing what I do.[/blue]

Unfortunately not. I've checked both application and system and they are clear.

Sorry if there is not a lot to go on, but thats all there is. It is most odd. As I said, it was working, then it stopped.

When I say it whirrs for a bit, I mean it looks like it is loading the application, you briefly see the Windows Server 2003 logo as you would expect, but then nothing.

The plot thickens. It turns out the Citrix Server produces the following dialog when a user attempts to load Outlook 2003.

WFSHELL shell encountered a problem and needed to close.

If you click on details you get the following:
Error Signature: wfshell.exe
szAppVer: 2.3.1467.1
szModName: HPBF742E.DLL
szModVer: 4.18.0.420
Offset: 001359b0

Now, this would suggest a problem with an HP printer driver, but I am open to any further suggestions.

It looks like there is either a ropey printer or driver, or there is a driver missing.

Right, I have removed all printers and drivers from the server, and I have disabled all client printer connection settings.

Now, I get no print errors. Everything is fine on that score. However, Outlook still doesn't run.

Some more information: to access I am using the ICA web client & whatever they call nFuse these days. If I click on the icon in my browser it says it is connecting, and I get the Windows 2003 loading screen flash up, then nothing.

I have now tried accessing it from Program Neighbourhood on the Citrix server itself. This produces a different error:

The following requested video mode was not available: 800 x 550 x 8BPP
The video mode has been set to the following mode: 1024 x 768 x 8BPP

Video mode for existing system cannot change.

Now whether that is related or not I have not yet found out. But any suggestions are welcome.

Incidently, the problem drivers turned out to be for an HP Business Inkjet 3000.

More information:

If I clear down the wfcwin32.log file on the server, then try and connect via Program Neighbourhood, I see it talking to Outlook 2003 (ie lots of transmits and receives in the log file). Then just over a minute later it communicates again, before disconnecting the session.

I changed the screen settings within Program Neighbourhood, and that got rid of the previous error, so I think that that was a red herring.

I have also rechecked the event logs, and they are all still error (and indeed, warning) free.
