Outlook 2002: Cannot Delete Messages Stuck in the Outbox

Hello, I am running Outlook 2002 with a Pop3 account. I have messages currently stuck in my Outbox and I am unable to delete them. When I try to delete I receive the following message:

"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook."

I have already downloaded and installed all of the Office updates. I have also tried to set Outlook to work offline and delete the messages without success. Any help would be much appreciated.
