outlook 2002 and 97 calender appointment compatibility

Hello. Is there backward compatibility between sending a calendar appointment from outlook 2002 to outlook 97 and having the calendar appointment updated into the outlook 97 calendar? (I have one user sending the other user an appointment via outlook and the receiving user (outlook 97) can't view or add the appointment to his calendar.)
