The battery ran out on my laptop whilst Outlook 2000 was receiving an email, Now I get the message 'MICRSOFT OUTLOOK HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE'. I have removed Outlook and reinstalled and removed the whole Office 2000 package and re-installed but still get the same error. I am running Windows XP. Surely I dont have to format and re-install XP. Can someone advise please....

Outlook 2000 wont start

maybe the mail has become corrupt the program was working on when the problem occured and your preview pane is on?
try the following:
start - run
outlook /regserver
then:
outlook /nopreview
and see if that solves the problem.

How to run command-line switches:

I slected Start then run and browsed in the 'open' line to the folder with Outlook.exe and added the argument to give following....
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OUTLOOK.EXE" /unregserver
message received back is still 'The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using' ...
Frustrating..... However, the '/safe' argument works and starts outlook up..... Any suggestions please ??))
