Outlook 2000 stripping file extensions

I have one user who is running into this problem. She has win2kpro, sp2. Office 2000, sp1. She is trying to send a word document and it strips off the extension everytime. If I change to option in windows to show the file extensions, it does not strip the estension. While this works, she would like me to find out why this is happening. Anyone ever run into this before?

Umm this is functioning as designed.... I think you need to better explain the problem, because you said it works the way you set it to work, and you want to know why?

Sometimes Outlook can do that. The only fix I've ever heard of is reinstallation of Outlook.
