Outlook 2000 stripping file extension

I have one user who is running into this problem. She has win2kpro, sp2. Office 2000, sp1. She is trying to send a word document and it strips off the extension everytime. If I change to option in windows to show the file extensions, it does not strip the estension. While this works, she would like me to find out why this is happening. Anyone ever run into this before?

Does the behavior stay the same if you switch Outlook to a different editor? (i.e. plain text, html,...) joegz
