Hi,

Here's the story, and hopefully you can help out:

We have a small office (8 users) and the person who did the computer stuff set us up on a "mailserver" (actually it was an NT server running windows messaging to a desktop running outlook with a bunch of forwarding rules)... realizing this wasn't ideal we've since moved to straight pop accounts through our ISP. Everything was working fine, until someone deleted the Windows messaging from the Add/remove programs. This was linked to their outlook settings somehow and their profile was deleted as well.

We were able to get them a new profile, but to get their old e-mail we'd have to use their .pst file. Which wouldn't be a problem except they had a password associated with it and have no idea what it was. the person who used to deal with the computers has since left the company, but even when called she didn't know the password.

Is there anything out there, tricks, tips, tools, that would help bypass the .pst password? Any help would be appreciated... the user is quite upset that they can't get to their old e-mail.

thanks

You can download free trial's of some companies Password Recovery software...

However most of them have limitations on length of password. If it is really important spend the $50 or $60 and get a full license.

Hope this helps... mot98

I thought that program only worked on Outlook 9X. Would be interested to see if it works on 2000. mot98

I've applied it to Outlook 2k with successful results. (Just be sure and make a backup copy of the .pst file, for good measure.)

thanks for the help,

Unfortunately the upgrade program doesn't seem to work. I don't know if it is because I'm trying it on Win2k or because its office 2k. keep up with the help :)

Thanks

Please give details on what's not working. Any errors? This is one of those things where the instructions have to be followed exactly...

Well, in the small lag time (what was it, a half hour?) I tried out the AOLpr site and it seemed to work, Now I just have to figure out what happened to their .pab files. They have e-mail and their normal contact lists, but they had a bunch of personal address book entries that they need back.

grrrr

thanks for the help.
