Outlook 2000 ldap addressbook bind password

In outlook 2000 (Internet email mode), you can setup a ldap adddressbook. And even specify which DN to bind as for searches--and correspondingly what password to bind as. HOWEVER, outlook doesn't appear to give any error messages when this password is invalid. It will just do an anonymous bind and do the search. Our ldap directory requires authentication to view most of the contact info. Is there any way around this?
