Outdents to the right

I'm setting a book which is an A-Z of codes for occupations. Each entry consists of the job title and a two-digit code, and some also have a brief description. The code is set flush right, on the same line as the job title where there is no description or after the description if there is one. At the moment I have tabbed the codes to the right, but this allows text in the descriptions to appear above and below the codes. I want the codes to appear in a visual column, like a runaround that can only be breached by the job code tab. I thought tables might work but text flow is a priority. There isn't a workaround is there?
