I had a similar problem with another office that everyone at tektips was very helpful with , but the problem has been reversed. All our offices use MCI T1s and when this one particular office calls any of our other offices, our company's name shows on our caller ID (which is what we should be seeing). If this office calls a regular POTS line the far end sees the name of an employee who left years ago. This employee's name starts with the letter A, which leads me to believe that years ago, when the office first opened and they used Verizon POTS lines, this employee was the first name listed on the account. Now we have an MCI T1 but this old employee's name shows on outbound caller ID. MCI just told me it's my PBX, but I know that's not the case. How can I explain to MCI in basic English what they need to do to correct this? This has been going on for two months now. Thank you.

You need CLASS cards to show caller information over POTS lines.

I'm not sure from your post if you have them.

Good luck.

I have no idea what a CLASS card even is but would they have anything to do with the fact that OLD information is being passed? The person's name who is showing (along with the firm's #) left years ago...thanks.

Sorry, I didn't pay close enough attention to your message and I was thinking of something else.

CLASS (Custom Local Area Signaling Service) allows non-propritary phones on the Nortel switch to display calling name and number from the outside.

I'll take a more careful look at your question and see if I can come up with something a little more intelligent.

well, it's not that we're not showing a name when we call out but rather we're showing an employee's name and not the firm's name. When this office calls anyone at home (their clients, for example) an attorney's name who has long since left shows up on the client's caller ID (along with our correct phone number). I keep hearing about cached databases but can't figure out how to explain to MCI that they need to correct this, not me. thanks for your help!

Tell MCI to look at the name on the account and verify it matches the Caller ID output. Also, if another carrier is involved ,ie. LNP'd, last mile, local connection, etc...you may have to notify them. If you are not on the MCI ring node then another carrier (RBOC) would have to extend it to your location. If that database was not cleared then MCI would just see the number/name sent and tell you the it is coming from you...

thank you very much. I forwarded this info to MCI. Perhaps they will understand better. I can only hope.
