Outbound caller ID on POTS lines?

Due to multiple problems with Verizon, we had to go back to POTS lines for our IP412. We are running 3.1 (65).

I'd like to set an outbound caller ID, so all the calls we make show as our main number. So far, I've tried the following without any success. Is there something that Verizon needs to do on their end to get this working. I hope not. They must be the worst company to deal with. I've had nothing but horrible experiences with them, but that's a story for another time.

We need to dial "9" to get an outside line.

Code: [9]N;
Number: Ns815899xxxx
Feature: dial

Code: [9]N;
Number: Nsi815899xxxx
Feature: dial

Got any ideas on how to make this work?

Thanks for the help.

Out bound Caller ID information is provided by your service provider when using analog lines.

There is no way to manipulate it via IP Office.

Well, it was worth investigating. Verizon is the only carrier in our area and can't provide PRI from our central office. To get PRI, we would have to change our phone numbers, which is not likely to happen. We tried a T1 with them, but they were unable to program an outbound caller ID on their gear, so all our calls appeared as "unknown number". That was a show stopper so we had to go back to POTS lines.

Not these days. Other LECS in the city can PORT the numbers from Verizon to their service, allowing your number to be kept. Porting's been around for several years and my understanding is it is supposed to be available (by law) in all areas at this point.

I may be wrong on that, but I'm pretty sure its an FCC requirement at this point.

That would be nice if it were true. From our investigation, Verizon is the only local carrier. They tell us that to get a PRI, we have to do a foreign exchange from another town. They say we can not keep our current number and have a connection with a different central office. Even if we went with another provider, they would have to route from that same central office; or so I am told. Our local lines would have to go through Verizon, but we could use someone else for long distance.

I think I'll give AT&T a call and see if they can do anything. I'm beyond upset with Verizon. I'm sure AT&T is no different, but I can hope can't I?

Thats different. PORTing only works when in the same city. yeah, that would be expensive. Hmmm. Tell them to get a real CO switch. PRI is only like 15 years old. ;)

You may also be able to convert your POTS lines to TRUNKS. What that would do is allow them to not actually have phone numbers. The first one would, but the others would just simply be called H1, H2, H3, etc. (Hunt 1,2,3). The outbound number would always be your MBN (Main Billing Number).

Surely they can do that....
