I have Exchange 5.5. SP4 installed on w2k SP3. this used to work they say....
All users can turn their OOF on but only some of them where it works! Ive done test on the server with outlook 2000 and different profiles and some of them replies back fine with Out of office but others dont..??
If I create a brandnew user and mailbox works fine!!

anyone have an idea? im getting pissed here...

The same was happening on several of our computers. Look at Microsoft Knowledge Base article #174045 - Installing and using the CleanSweep Tool.

This fixed our errors.

I had this problem a while ago on my own mailbox and 1 other mailbox. I posted this on another forum ( once I got the solution. These steps are modified from Q253138 which deals with delegate rules. Here it is:

1. Copy the following files to a computer that Outlook is installed on:
- Mdbvu32.exe
- Propvu32.dll
- Statvu32.dll
- Tbvlu32.dll
- Xvport.dll
You can find the Mdbvu32 utility and the accompanying DLL files on the Exchange Server 5.5 CD-ROM in either the Server\Support\Utils\I386 folder or the Server\Support\Utils\Alpha folder.

2. Verify that a profile exists for the user's mailbox, that the profile is selected as the default profile, and that a user (who has permission to the user's mailbox) is successfully logged on to the client workstation.

3. Ensure that Outlook is not currently running on the workstation.

4. Start the Mdbvu32.exe utility.

5. In the MAPILogonEx(MAPI_LOGON_UI) dialog box, click OK (you do not need to set any flags).

6. In the MDB Viewer Test Application window, click MBD - OpenMessageStore.

7. Click Mailbox - '', and then click Open.

8. In the MDB Viewer Test Application window, click MBD - Open Root Folder.

9. In the Child Folders pane of the MAPI_FOLDER - Root window, double-click "Top of Information Store".

10. In the Child Folders pane of the MAPI_FOLDER - Top of Information Store window, double-click Inbox. The properties of the Inbox folder itself are now displayed.

11. Locate the Associated Message in FLD pane of the MAPI_FOLDER - Inbox window.

12. You need to examine each of these items to determine which item is the OOF rule:

Out of Office rules have the following data:

MSFT:TDX OOF Rules

14. After you identify the OOF rule, verify that the OOF rule is selected in the Associated Message in FLD pane of the MAPI_FOLDER - Inbox window.

15. In the MAPI_FOLDER - Inbox window, in the "Operations available" list, click "lpFld->DeleteMessages()", and then click Call Function.

16. The MAPI_FOLDER - Inbox->DeleteMessages() window is displayed. Click OK to delete the message.

17. When you are ready to quit the Mdbvu32 utility, click Close in all of the windows until the MDB Viewer Test Application window is displayed.

18. In the MDB Viewer Test Application window, click MBD - Store Logoff.

19. In the LpMDB->StoreLogoff() window, click OK (you do not need to set any of the flags).

20. In the LOGOFF_COMPLETE dialog box, click OK.

21. Close the MDB Viewer Test Application window.

Open up Outlook and OOF should work. :)
