I cannot get Outlook's Out-of-Office autoreply to work for correspondents not on our Exchange server. In other words, anyone sending a message to a former employee (I've retained the account's SMTP address and hidden it from the in-house Global Address List) does not receive the out-of-office reply if they are writing from another company or a personal email account. Does this feature just not work for anyone writing from outside the office?

It depends what on what type of mail system that the sender is sending from. Some mail programmes do not accept OOA's back or they may be filtered by a mail filter at the other end.
