My exchange server was running low on disk space. The users were deleting mail and yesterday it started increase slightly. This morning it is completely out of disk space. Is there anyway to access the files. No one can connect so we can't even delete anything. Would defragmenting help? I can't find any recommendatons for defragmenting.

Thanks.

I am assuming Exchange 2003. There is a registry setting that will temporarily increase the Standard 16gig limit to 17gig. HKLM/SYSTEM/Current Control Set/Services/MSExchangeIS/<Server name>/Private-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Add DWORD Temporary DB Size Limit Extension and set it to 1. Restart the Exchange server and delete some stuff.

I would also consider doing an offline defrag on the database. Make sure you back it up first.

Good luck

Deleting mail or moving mailboxes to another store on another disk does not reduce database spize. You should do these procedures and then an offline defrag of the database to claim back the white space. Read up on the ESEUTIL on how to run the procedure...

Good luck...

Delete all the transaction log files/Run a full backup.
