Built a server from scratch (Win 2000 server, SP4, all updates and patches, and norton antivirus corporate edition)

Attempting to install OTM, and at 1st had issues with MDAC, so downloaded the latest version from Microsoft.

Now i re run the OTM install, and it says it hasnt got windows installer v2.0, so it says its installing it, asks to reboot, and tells me that setup will continue after the reboot.

I let it reboot, log into the server, install carries on, then it starts to complain about windows installer 2.0 and im stuck in theis same loop :(

The installer service is up and running, and i have even d/loaded windows installer 2.0 from Microsoft, and upon trying to install Windows Installer manually, it tells me its already installed.

Any ideas?

Read the GRB (General Release Bulletin) to find out what SP should be on the Server. Uninstall OTM and Set Server to GRB standards. Try to install OTM after doing that.

What version of OTM ?

2.0 – 2.01
WIN2000 3 or higher *
NT 4.0 6a option pack 4

Configurations NOT Supported

Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Windows 2000 Datacenter Server

WIN2000 with service pack 3 or lower, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Windows 2000 Datacenter Server

May want to reinstall without Norton on the server

This is a known issue that I have run into a number of times. Basically, the fix is easy -- You must retreat the Windows 2000 server back to SP3 and then your OTM 2.0/2.1 installation will progress smoothly (assuming you follow all documented steps). Once OTM is installed and patched, you can then install Win2000 SP4.
This doesn't seem to be an issue if you upgrade OTM from a previous version on Win2000 -- only new installations.
Hopefully you installed SP4 with the option to uninstall it -- otherwise you're looking at a new OS installation.
Fortunately, this is not an issue with OTM 2.2.78

I have also seen what jalawre is saying and it does work to back out SP4, back to SP3 and then reinstall after the OTM upgrade.

I also had the same problem. It follows the suggestions of jalawre
