I just did an erase and install from 9.2 to 10.2 on a machine and everything seems to be working fine except that the HD does not show up either in the root of the Finder or on the desktop. Showing HD's on the desktop is enabled in Finder Preferences. The HD did show up when it was 9.2. The only thing I can think of is that the label on the HD is "............" when I look at it in Disk Utility. Could this be the problem? (That was the same label it had as 9.2 though) Any ideas, let me know.

Thanks.

You are moving from the world of OS9 (which allowed odd filenames) to the mainstream world of OSX (where you need to follow some standard naming conventions). It may be a good idea to pick up an introductory book about OSX.

Any filename that begins with a period will be hidden from the user in OSX. Rename the drive from '........' to a real name and you will see it in OSX.

Thanks...one problem though. What is the best way to change the name seeing as how I can't see the drive to rename it?

boot into OS9

Use System Preferences>Startup Disk to set OS9 as the boot system

No go. I did a clean erase and install so OS 9 is not an option anymore. There's nothing I can do in classic, is there?

Do you still have an OS9 CD that you can boot from?

I probably have one around here someplace. I'll give that a try and let you know.
