Hello,

Does anyone know the release dates for the first Dot net and then Dot Net 2003? Maybe some links to doc that shows them?

I got turned down for a job because I didn't have 5-7 years of dot net. I have 20 years of programming with over 10 in VB thru VB.net. I told them Dot Net wasn't available to the public 7 years ago. We worked with the betas I believe in 1999 got formal trainig from Msoft early 2002 but were working with it before that. I think we were upgrading to VB6 in 1999.

The Msoft guy told us companies weren't upgrading to dot net because they were laying off tons of people at that time with the crash of the dot coms and doing re-writes weren't going to happen with budgets being slashed.

Some of these people are unbelievable!!

Thanks!!

I don't have the exact date but like it says .net 2002 in 2002 and the other in 2003 so seven years is a bit on the high side.

7 years ago... 1998, VB5 was still king, VB6 was in the works, ADO was in beta, RDO was a pain in the hiney.

5 years ago... 2000, VB6 was going strong, power builder was in decline, ASP was on the rise, ADO was well established, and people were comeplaining about the lack of Object Oriented architextures in VB.

That's about what I can remember.

Either they were testing you to see if you were willing to correct authority figures, or they're idiots. First case: potentially good place to work at. Second case: run away!

.net framework v1.0 service pack 1 was released on March 19th, 2002, so that goes along with my flaky memory of early 2002 for the v1.0 release

This is pathetic, us programmers have very short memories, we can't even rememeber what happened 4 years ago.

If you want some fun, then read some code you wrote four years back, it's hilarious.
