All,

Has anyone got experience of installing the above patch from Oracle 8.1.7? If so, can you tell me
1. How long it took?
2. Any problems?

Can you also tell me if the patch also updates Oracle Client? If not, I need to upgrade Oracle Client, how can I get this upgraded to be v8.1.7.1 or above.

Regards,
Vivek

No probs. Allow about one hour - there are manual steps not to be rushed - besides the upgrade there are catalog & catproc to be re-run. To that add the time for a COLD backup!

It seems that the client upgrade is included. DaPi - no silver bullet

what I did to cut some time off & speed rollback if (hopefully not) needed is install 8.1.7.0.1 baseline in a new home ($ORACLE_BASE/product/8.1.7.4 vs. 8.1.7), patch it up to .4 then remount db with new version. at this point you still have to run catalog & catproc but using this method I was able to limit unavailability to ~15 min/instance.

don't forget to update any related SQL*Net files (listener.ora, etc.).
