Hi All,

Can anyone help me how to change the Oracle home?

This is on the Windows XP.

Start -> Programs -> Oracle Installation Products -> Home Selector

I received the following error .......

Unable to determine Oracle home information from the registry. Primary Oracle home unchanged.

Your ideas will help me to change the Oracle Home.

Some questions:

1: do you have more that one Home?

2: Did the install(s) complete without error?

3: were you aware that only XP Pro is a supported platform?

4: Why would you have more than one home on a PC that only supports ( if Pro) 1 version of the Database software?

More info please....Especially versions of OS, all database and clients, etc...

Turkbear,

Thanks for your reply.

I installed on the same pc Oracle9i Database server, Oracle 9i Developer Suite. I have two homes on my Computer.
One is for Database and the other one for Developer Suite.
The operating system I am using is the Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002.

Ans:

1. I have two Oracle Homes.

2. All the products which I installed so far are without errors.

3. As per the Oracle Oracle 9iAS is not certified with the Windows XP Home Edition. Due to system resources and the managenet, I installed on the same PC.

4. Due to system resources I installed on the same PC.

Any suggestions Welcome.

Ramesh

Hi,
No Oracle 9 product is supported on XP Home, so problems might be caused with that setup..

It appears that your registry did not get updated when you installed the second product - did you install then as a user with Administrative rights?

Did the installation program require you to use a different home for the second installation?

I really suspect, however, the OS is the problem....

Turkbear,

Here are the error messeges,

1) All Oracle9iAS installations on a host must be installed by the same operating system user. The initial Oracle9iAS installation located at C:\Oracle\Portal was installed by a different operating system user. Please exit this install, log in as the user who installed the initial Oracle9iAS installation, and restart the insall.

2) There was a problem in accessing the staging area. Please make sure the specified values for 'Source' and 'Destination' are valid.

3) The target area D:\programmeFiles\Oracle\Inventory is being written to by another session. A write lock cannot be obtained.

4) Unable to determine Oracle home information from the registry. Primary Oracle home unchanged.

That was the order of error messeges I received, while installing the Oracle 9iAS on Windows XP Home Edition.

As you mentioned, it might be the OS problem.

Hi, In addition is seems like some 'trash' got left after an incomplete install...

You can try to uninstall ( manually - stop all Oracle services, remove all registry entries that reference Oracle ( do a full search, they may be anywhere - search for ora, Ora, Oracle and even c:\Oracle and remove the services as well [ in CurrentControlSet] )

Then delete the entire directory structure(s) relating to Oracle..

re-start the PC and, if you want, try again...

Turkbear,

I do not want to remove the Oracle 9i Database Server and Oracle 9i Developer Suite from my PC, but I want to Remove the Oracle 9iApplication Server only.

Can you please guide me how to removet the associated files.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Ramesh

Hi, for that you are 'stuck' with what the Oracle Installer can remove..It would be far too tedious to manually try the method I outlined..you would need to know which installaion
each key referred to..
