Oracle 73 ODBC Driver cannot connect

I am having trouble trying to connect to an Oracle 8i database (on a server) using the Oracle73 ODBC driver (on a separate client PC).

I can connect successfully with SQL Plus (3.3), presumably this means my SQL*Net information is correct?

What do I then need to enter in the "SQL*Net Connect String" field in the ODBC Driver settings? I have entered the name of the SQL*Net connection, but when testing the ODBC connection I get "SQLState 08003: Connection not Open" errors.

Is it possible to connect to the server with this driver? What am I doing wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gavin.

I am not sure that version can connect to a v8 or higher
Oracle..But, for the SqlNet Connection string, you would put your tnsnames.ora alias for the instance you are trying to access..

Why not update your ODBC driver ( and the client's Oracle software) to 8.1.7 ..
v8.1 clients can connect to v7 databases.
( NOTE: v9.2 of the Oracle client ( the current release) cannot connect to anything earlier than v8))
