ORA for beginners, Problem 1

"invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified"

I got this error msg, I've already configurated my Oracle client for ORA8i, I reinstall my client for a problem that I had.

But I stil have this problem, I can connect throu SQLPlus, but when I try to connect using SQL Navigator or ODBC Oracle Test I got this error :"invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified"

Hi,
If on Windows ( it would help to specify your OS)
you can edit the registry to remove all the NLS_ parameters
- that way your client will use the Database settings..They seem to be OK, since SqlPlus works..
I suspect some leftovers from the reinstall..
( Also make sure your Oracle_home is set to the correct location in case the reinstall was to someplace else..)

thxs Turkbear for the help, yes is on win2000.
when I try to view the oracle home they show a msg that say, u have only one oracle home(1).

Good..Thats what you want..So the registry action should eliminate the NLS_ error..

hi, I just fix the problem, I remove all the register on the Oracle home ( from the regedit ) and reinstall again the Oracle Client. so now it's working fine.

HI,
Great..That is a good way to handle a reinstall..Oracle's uninstaller is notorious for leaving registry entries..Manually delete them before reinstalling and things go much smoother...
