Option no longer working with Function keyboard shortcuts

About a month ago using the Function keyboard shortcuts with "option" quit working for me.

For instance, whether I use "shift F5" or "option shift F5," my object will be sent all the way to back.

Likewise, both "F7" and "option F7" will show/hide my guides wheras "option F7" should toggle my baseline grid on and off.

I am using Q4 on Mac OS9, and would greatly appreciate any help getting this solved. Thanx.

Well, I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that I know the answer. The bad news is that I can't remember it.

I came across this two years ago and fixed it, but I have since moved on to OSX. The OS9 machine in the corner has Quark 4 and has the same problem you have.

It's something pretty dumb, from memory, it's either a Quark Xtension problem, or it's a control panel or a system extension, or something like that. Turn whatever it is off and you get option key back.

Tell me what else you run, and anything new you've installed lately, and it might trigger my memory (cos I'm gonna keep thinking about it till I remember!!)

Me again.

I'm pretty sure it's the keyboard control panel. If you remove it from your control panels you get option back. This is fine unless you need multiple language keyboard entries - I never missed it!
