When I open Windows Automatic Updates from the control panel, all of my options are greyed out.

How can I change this so that I can setup my automatic updates to download on a schedule?

Administrative Tools, Services
The service is not running. Start it, and set its startup desposition to Automatic.

In order to enable the "Install on a schedule" option, you have to have two items chosen:

1. The tickbox at the top of the window "Keep my computer up to date. With this setting enabled..."

2. The option button "Automatically download the updates, and install them on the schedule I specify."

Choosing the 2nd option (which can only be done when the first is ticked) will let you choose the schedule for installation.

if your wks is part of a domain it is possible that a SUS GPO is being applied. check registry key using 'regedit.exe' froma command prompt and browse to HKLM\software\policies\microsoft\windows\windowsupdate

if you see a value REG_SZ key named WUServer and the data value is set, then your wks is using SUS.
